out to be correct & we have found out the the inviduals
whose names you gave me; were really engaged — but
we could not ascertain, that there was a Treaty for
the cession of an Island". I said I believed the principal
Agent (Colombel) was now dead, but that another
individual had been since sent by Russia to treat with
Boyer.
I then said—The immediate object Sir of my
wishing to see you was,to represent to you the state
of Greece & to communicate a number of facts, which
might perhaps be important in assisting a prompt decision
on the part of the British Government. — We
have news down to the 7th Dect by which it appears
that new triumphs on the part of the Greeks have closed
the present campaign & have decided finally the independence
of Greece — "I believe (said Mr Canning that

planned at Petersburg, where Ipsilanti Stepetes, & others
received their instructions. Their Russians have sent
several Agents from to the Morea — they have been in constant
intercourse with the Kapstavos — they have kept
the Metropolitan at Greece (Ignatius) long in their pay —
& thro' the Helerest society at Warsaw they have long
sent supplies into Greece— Now the Greeks can have no chance
