Hazlewood
Education. I had formed a plan for conducting
the intellectual part of the education of boys in a building which
but for some extraordinary disappointments I should have erected eight or nine
years ago in that garden of mine which you saw. On
looking into a published not long ago published by Mr
Hill of Hazlewood near Birmingham, 120 miles from London I saw that the
principles, as to the intellectual branch of education perfectly agreeing
with mine, he had added others belonging to the moral branch, which
in my situation, could not have been carried into effect,
and which were instead the result of Genius operating upon
an experience which had never been within my reach.
I On inquiry, finding that they
had in that instance received the fullest confirmation from
practice, I, from that moment, determined to give up my own own scheme altogether,
and, according to the measure of my moderate ability faculties, to apply
myself to the giving enlargement to the establishment of Mr Hill. I have made
so far that his Boarding School has already acquired unexampled celebrity has offers
of more pupils than it will hold, and arrangements are taken
