I take the liberty of inclosing a copy of the a
lately published second edition of a work in which the
Hazlewood system is explained, together with a few documents
belonging to it. I can certify to you that there is
nothing approaching that approaches to it chastens.

Should it meet your approval, Sir, You will consider
whether it might not be for the advantage of
Columbia and Greece, for the government to send a young man each: or
two young men each, to learn the method of instruction with
a view to the setting up schools in a similar plan in
the several metropolises of the two States, in discussion. Suppose
two sent, one, for the great despatch might return after
passing a shorter time, say one year; the other, for better
assurance of proficiency, after a longer time, say two years.

In According to the principles developed in the Democratic and
Instruction paper herewith sent, – the less the expence to government, the better
it would be, even with a view to aptitude for instruction.
The best course accordingly seems to be to engage and any individuals
who could spare the money, to send each of them a son,
under the private assurance, that, upon their return, supposing
sufficient round made for regarding them as competent, a
suitable house should be furnished to him, together with a salary
just sufficient for bare subsistence; every thing above depending on the
number of the Scholars.

At my own expence I have for about these nine months
been maintaining two Greek boys who on my in consequence of an invitation given by
us to the constituted authorities were sent thither hither from Greece.
