Of Deontology in general

Considered as an art, Deontology may be defined the
art of doing what is fit to be done — considered
as a science, the science knowing of what is fit to be done
on every occasion that can present itself.

1
Deontology the
art of doing what
is fit by the person
in question is fit
to be done on the
occasion in question:
the science of what
is fit to be done &c

But when I say — on the occasion in question
such or such a thing is fit to be done, what is it that
I mean? — Answer — this and nothing either this or nothing more else — viz
what is it that upon understanding that it has been done by the person in question or the occasion in question
I should approve of: approve of as much at least as
if not more than anything else which by that same
person or that same occasion could have been done

2
What I mean by fit
to be done is that
of the doing of what
I approve

But Meantime this thing concerning to which where on the supposition
of its being done

But this approbation of mine to what end
should I declare it? Either to this end, or to none,
viz. that on the occasions of the sort in question, by
persons or the situation in question, the point or line of conduct
towards which my approbation is thus declared, may
be pursued.

3
The end to what
I declare it fit to
be done, is that
it may be done
