Polit. Deontology
Sinister interest = every narrow interest when in considered as competition
with a broader one.
Of interest – abstractedly taken and do after adjustment
and compromise, viz. the mainspring interest and the regulated
interest
Whatsoever mass at any given point of time to be the aggregate mass of the
matter of good existing in the community in question,
it is the interest meaning the self regarding of each member of the community, supposing
it in his power, to have the whole if it. But
the course of action thus prescribed the interest of each finding itself opposed counteracted by the courses of
action produced by the interest of every other, no one of them
at ever finds it in his power to give effect to this his
abstract self regarding interest. Each man's abstract interest
finds in the sum of the abstract interests of all the others
so many counteracting interests.
From various no different courses so it is that each man finds less difficulty
in the pursuit of his own self regarding interest where it
meets with little less powerful opposition from the course taken by
others in the pursuit of their own respective interests respectively, than
where it meets with greater opposition.
The mass of good which each man finds less
difficulty in the enjoyment preservation and preservation of them
all an acquisition of that of any others is that which is his
own. For 1. Being better acquainted with it than any
other man, it is thereby easier for him to preserve
it, 1. from the knowledge derive a faciliti in respect of
the keeping it a greater facility than may allow can
have or the acquisition gives. 2. Being better acquainted
with it he is better acquainted with his its uses –with
the manner of applying it to his own purposes into to than
he is with the any correspondent article belonging to any other: 1. by the
habit of putting it to use or of expecting to put it to use, he possesses
as towards it a sort
of attachment which
he possesses not in regard
to the correspondent articles
belonging to any other
individual: which
