June 30

Eructation – has to one
the offensiveness
of it. As you stand
or sit, take notice of
the direction in which
the blast will not reach
any person: then at
that direction puff let it
out at the smallest possible
aperture at the
corner of your mouth
in that direction as
men commonly do
in smoaking. In
that way it may make
the evil unperceived.

If in every direction
there be some
person within reach of
the blast, put your
hand before you mouth
at the time: the carbon
and will there by
its superior gravity descend.

When you are sitting
at table with any person opposite to you, this is better
than visibly puffing it out i.e.
to the person at ever
so great a distance, if
he does not actually perceive
the smell, imagination
may make him fancy
he does.
