J.B.s Inventions
☞ Agendum. Expression to be given to the relation which
has place between the Divisive into Evils – means – pathological
– rates principle, the and that into Subsistence, Abundance – Equality and Security
to be exhibitive & expressive of clear ideas the
language of justice & injustice required to be translated
into the language of Utility and the language
of utility into the language of happiness & unhappiness,
the language of happiness & unhappiness into the
language of pleasures & pains.
Note here another imperfection of the language
of utility – it has no opposite, such as those other
languages have.
Quoth Bacon, fiat experientia: quoth Bentham,
fiat observatia. On observation made & pleasures and
pains as consequence on human actions are grounded,
from beginning to end, all his reasonings. By his
pathological axioms, expressions are given to all those several
results.
Natural Philosophy has for its grounds a mixture
of experience, observation, & experiment.
Moral Philosophy, a mixture of experience &
observation, without experiment.
Legislation again a mixture of experience, observation,
& experiment.
☞ Add now subject matters of the experience, &
of Natural Philosophy &c.
