Exchequer
The ancient, constitutional peritions
of the Exchequer are to exercise a
control over the Crown in the employment
of the public money. This Court is composed of persons who hold their situations – to
secure its the safe custody of the public money and its
proper expenditure according to
the Authority of Parliament.(1)
The officers of the Court of Exchequer
hold their
situations for life</del>
(1) "The Exchequer is at least
with the Norman Conquest; it has been
from its earliest institution looked to as
a Check upon the Lord High Treasurer
and a protection for the King as well
as well as the subject in the custody, payment
and issue of the public money. The business
of the Exchequer in its simplest form is
the receipt of the public money and the
issue of the same under the orders from
the proper authority"
Mr Ellis Report to the Chancellor of
the Exchequer March 2 1828 p 9
