§ Extra-regarding evil – Sources of

Negative beneficence is
where evil is purposely
forborne to be done.

Benevolence – its cause
so far as the exclusion
of the evil itself is the
object.

Means of cultivating
these virtues, notion of
the sources or causes of
evil done to man by
man: viz
1. Motives. 2. Occasions.

1. Motives, are –
1. Self-regarding interest
at large
2. Interest of the pillow –
heedlessness.
3. Interest of the trumpet
price and vanity.
4. Interest of the ball bladder –
ill-will or antipathy.
5.
Causes of ill will or antipathy.
1. Rivalry in respect of
self regarding interest.
2. Obnoxious author of
trouble – disturbance to
interest of the pillow.
3. Do. author of wound
to pride or vanity.
4. Do. author of do. evils
to an object of ill-willler's
sympathy.
5. Do. holder of opinions
different from ill-willers.
6.
Causes of the ill will
in this case.
1. Manifestations of disesteem pro tanto in obnoxious,
as towards ill-willer.
