For of a truth that fact is subject to no dispute, – it is evident beyond
the possibility reach of doubt – it is paramount to all principles of reasoning – and
forcible beyond all possibility of resistance. And let not the mind be led
astray by any distinctions drawn between pleasures & happiness. Happiness
is the aggregate of which pleasures are the component parts.
Happiness without pleasures is a chimera & a contradiction – it
is a million without any units – a square yard in which there
shall be no inches – a bag of gold guineas without practical parts compo an atom of gold.
