The number of Civil Causes tried by the Tribunal
of Commerce in Paris, were
in 1824 – 23.721, of which 9.577 were amicably settled;
in 1825 – 27.377, of which 8.959 were amicably settled;
in 1826 – 44.935, of which 11.107 were amicably settled;
The number of failures were, in

Of the state of the labouring population, we have
obtained from the Reports of the Prefect of the Seine,
and others, the particulars which we submit in the
Appendix, (I.I.I.)
We refer to the Appendix for particulars
as to the manner in which the different
cases which have been brought before the
Tribunal of Commerce have been settled.
* & small the application of Knowledge to practice was necessarily
rude & barbarous. The amputation of surgery was the chopping off a
limb & dipping the stump into burning pitch – so did
imperfect was the study of the human body.
