is Frs 596,612,315 of Imports, and Frs 606,714,184 of Exports, being
an increase in Imports of Frs 48,481,815, and of Exports of Frs
158,520,318, as compared with the state of things 40 Years
before. But as the population of France has from the
Year 1787, increased from 25 to 38 millions, the natural
increase of Trade would have been 27 3/4 pCent, whereas
taking Exports and Imports together, it is only 21 pCent.
It has, therefore, been not only less than Stationary, as
regards the population, it has retrograded to the extent
of 6 34th pCent – of Frs 81,224,538.
