Ch. or §. Mode of for Negative Beneficence and Benevolence
its modes or modification object avoiding use on other – sanction sources of evil doing to others

Negative beneficence is exercised by me in so far as
evil which in by my act an act of mine might have been done to another
is not done or is purposely forborne to be done.

It has benevolence for its cause or at any rate for
its accompaniment, in so far as the contemplation of the
evil in question and the efficient desire to and endeavor to
avoid contributing to the production of it the evil, has place in
my breast mind breast.

It will be highly conducive to the cultivation of benenegative beneficence and
benevolence in my breast, it will be in a high degree an effectual process is
conductive
to have present to the mind the several answer a sources
in from which evil doing to others is liable to have its rise
flow
These courses or forms will be with 1. Motives or 2. Occasions and these sources or motives may be classified
under the following heads:

The sources a motive in which act doing are towards
others is liable to have its own way to these
and distinguished

1. Self regarding interest at large – and in particular pecuniary
interests
the interests of the palate, interests of the sexual desires senses
interest, interest of the senses and the interest of the sceptre, – the
interests of active corporeal enjoyments, & those of power.

2. Interest of the pouf pillow, interest corresponding to the love
of ease to the aversion to labor of body or mind. In this
case the cause of the evil may generally be expressed by some such
a single word as heedlessness carelessness inadvertence indifference through & so forth

3. Interest of the trumpet. Interest corresponding
to the pleasures and pains of the popular or moral sanction.
In this is included the interest affected by wounds given to pride and vanity.

4. Interest of the gall-bladder malevolence. Interest corresponding to the motive
termed ill will or antipathy.
