them over groupe by groupe, some
one or more propositions will be
observed by him as belonging to
all of them without exception,
and thus as having the effect
of combining them all whole into
one all comprehensive groupe.
But when once he has got under
his eye all the parts
constituent elements
appertaining that can appertain
to any such factitious
whole, for making division of
that whole into two parts portions
or masses under one or
other which all these elements
shall the without exception
be included, the logician has a
method of his own, and to this
it is that the appellation of
the method of exhaustion exhaustive
analysis has been
applied.
For ascertaining whether
on an the occasion of the division
thus made, all the parts of which
the whole is composed, belonging to composing are comprised
the whole, he has a test of his
own: an implement for the designation
of which the appellation
of a test of exhaustion
or a test of exhaustiveness
may be employed.
