To the works of Euclid the
father of mathematics, and after
him to the works those of other
mathematicians, objections of
what may be called the mathematical
cast have a different
times been made, and from
most if not from all attacks
of this sort they have been not
only strenuously but triumphantly
defended.

Contemplated Considered in
what may be called a logical
and in some instances a
grammatical point of view,
they would be found exposed
to objections in no inconsiderable
number; against
which, it may be averred
with some confidence, no
such defence would be found
capable of being made.

Of this class of imperfections
two a few examples have
been already given. On the
occasion of the exemplification
which it has been found
advisable to give of the
principle termed the Key-presenting
principle, three
a few others have been added See notes to the words each to each, base and produced. which on this occasion seemed
necessary for the purpose of
elucidation. have been added.
