J.B. to France against Death
§. VI. Attachment causes
II. Aristocrats
The lower orders stand in a peculiar degree
exposed to the temptation of committing those offences which
which by the aggregate number of which in so much
greater degree of frequency than by the aggregate number
of all the others put together this punishment be be is seen
produced, and with the idea of which the idea of the
punishment is with a proportionable degree of closeness associated.
Those class of offences are those which may be termed
offences of predatory indigence: offences in the case
of which the object id depredation, and the offender in
whose condition is that of indigence.
Thence it is that in England much English law
the term felony by be which was attached in the first instance
no other signification than that of a mode of punishment
to wit that of confiscation of which death punishment was
was the established accompaniment came to one offence
of which unlawful acquisition of property at the expense
of the proprietor ws the object with effect. Lower
orders – then who in so almost peculiar a degree stand
exposed to the temptation of committing those felony offences
in respect of which when convicted men are as stated felons,
and hanged for being so, are hanged.
