be possessed of the quality in question. consciousness. You have thus informed me of its genus. You then tell
me of certain other qualities it possesses, which
are not possessed altogether by any other animal. [a]
You have thus distinguished it from all other animals.
You have now informed me of it's differentia. But by telling me before that it was an
animal, you had distinguished it from all other
things that are not animals. Having now also Distinguishingd it
from all things that are animals, you have distinguished
it from all things whatsoever. If then
I have an idea of with respect to all the qualities you have mentioned
I have ideas of them as distinct from all other qualities, the idea
you have given me of a lynx is clear, distinct,
determinate.
