Such and such parts, he says, are in a Law.
A Statute is he says a Law. Wherever then we
see a Statute, we should what one should (naturally)
expect from this is to find these
parts in it. I should be glad to introduce
an example of a Statute whose in which no such
parts are to be found. (Such a statute may) Examples are as to be well
be met with any where: but to recite a
statute is to recite a Volume (insert one Volume into another.)
To insert a statute in this book would
be to insert one Volume into another.
Obey Law first and understand afterwards: learn what it is (this is to be obeyed) all
things in their order.
People are supposed to know the Statute Law
It is in their own making Law; they make it by their representatives: they
were present when it was made: they were present
by their representatives. They are
supposed to know the Common Law: it is
their own Custom; they make it of themselves
