Unless perhaps the latter destiny be the best to give
it: but one or the other should be the fate of every

Gaming debts why preferred to others
The persons a man of condition games with, are either
his equals associates, his equals: those he
trades deals with are his tradesmen, his informers.
The more a man isconverses with a set of people, the
more interesting to him is their goodwill.
It is neither to be considered as therefore nor
censured that a man should be more
[chary] of the good will of those with whom
he converses much, than of those with whom
he converses not at all or little: this is the
reason why gaming debts are paid in preference
to commercial. In preferring these to
those a man still does but pay manifest his homage
deference to the moral sanction;
which whose commands
are most loudest imperious, for the reason we have
