generous, and as profound
as it is clear.
It has been, it is, it
ever will be & cannot but be the ruling
policy of Ecclesiastics,
and of those whom Ecclesiastics
govern.
The peace of a an inquisitive a society is the more entire,
as there are more grounds left in it to murmur.
In common justice to a numerous body of
speculating men whom our Author stigmatises
with the frantic appellation of "miscreants"
let us confess, that as their notions of theirs do not thus
militate like his against the peace of society.
If of the three Sanctions that we know of, the
Political, the Moral and the Religious, they
allow but two strike off one, at least they do not turn
the third against it, they leave us in full undisturbed possession
of the other two If they destitute of the hopes of a happy immortality,
or of those evidences in it's favour
that are furnished by Revelation, at least
they do not dictate opposition to those Laws
that are which made by which we endeavour to promote for the happiness of the present
life.

most celebrated, advocates, must stand or
