Definition of Law Ex-post-facto
Meantime if mention must be made of ex-post-facto
Laws in season or out of season; there
is one thing relating to them, that had he seen it,
would have been worth telling: and that is,
that the Common Law which he adores,⊞ ⊞ or to speak more accurately the ideal Laws which may be deduced from it, the
Common Law, as such, is but a series of
such ex-post-facto Laws. A word or two short hint
this be there to reflect upon which for the present I leave to the meditation of those in whose power it is
by in taking away that property in them circumstance of the Common Law, which
makes them it the object of just (suspicion) to leave
all those which make it the object of as just a
reverence.

must relate to: for it is individual actions alone that
really exist, the species is but a creature of the brain
