SECT. I. Of Laws in General
The following are Let us see what the ideas are that we are to suppose upon
the carpet when we see the word Law makes its appearance:
they are these. 1st that of a superior being. 2dly
that of an inferior being: 3dly that of a something
presented (that is, said*) * (by way of Note) "dictated" he says in this word in the next pages by the superior to the inferior+ + first of them to the second
which something is called a rule of action. 4thly the obedience
of the inferior⊞ ⊞ that is his doing
of that act which

he spoke to him
bid him do: and in
consequence of, that
is, by force of the motives
suggested by
such bidding.: 5thly the inferior's being bound: that which
a supposed the idea of a something which that is to bind him to that
obedience.
When I speak of a superior being as making Laws for me,
I mean a being that can not make my happiness
less or greater than it is: when of an inferior being
that I make Laws for, a being whose happiness⊞ ⊞ can be made
(I can make)# less or greater than it is⊞ ⊞ by me. what I mean
the : when I speak of a something which is to a bind are inferior to obedience, I mean the expectation of having his happiness

According to this of the matter when a workman makes

Whatever then we speak of by the name of Law has
these 5 things: it seems to belong to it. And there are several
sorts of things, our Author gives us to understand that we speak of by the name of Laws.
There are for example, "The Laws of motion, of Gravitation,
of Mechanics, of Optics", – the Laws (that) a
"workman" gives (to) "the clock" he makes: to say nothing
of "the Laws of Nature and of Nations".
A pleasant way enough is that in which of going to work is that the Author
has found out for "the supreme being: whom if he unless
had which he had been about him had no more of
it had been to shew his piety he had very little occasion
