or anywhere is more than I can imagine. He seems
supposes to put a supposition, that mankind were divested of self-love:
meaning I suppose of sensibility, of the capacity of
receiving pain and pleasure. On this supposition,
he supposes that the greater a part of mankind
the greater part aided would have rested in ignorance.
Not that this same self-love is so necessary as one might
imagine: for
Another part however he seems to suppose, might
go on without it waring a chain of metaphysical disquisitions.
In that case what should serve them for a motive
to that employment or to any other, is I confess more than I am able to comprehend.
He next does seems to do as much as intimate,
that there is no way of being happy (human Laws

by being just: and that no man can be just without
