"This Law of Nature" continues our Author+ + p. 41 ⊞ ⊞ or, (to give it some
signification he should
have said, "these conceits
"of Grotius,
Puffendorf, Woolaston, Burlamaquil
"and my own" "being
"co-eval with mankind and dictated by God himself,
"is of course superior in obligation to any other.
"It is binding or over all the globe, in all countries,
"and at all times: no human Laws are of any
"validity, if contrary to this; and such of them as
"are valid derive all their force, and all their
"authority, mediately or immediately, from this
"original".
With this pompous declamation closes our Author's
account of this formidable non-entity, of the Law of Nature,
which by this time is become in spite of any every thing
that was hinted about it before, is become it seems, if we may trust what is here said of it, as real
and as plain, as the nose upon a man's face,
like "zeal", which according to the account history given of it
in the Tale of a Tub,† † Sect. 6, p. 99 6th Edit. "proceeded at first from a notion
