SECT. Municipal Law.

From We have seen our Author account of Laws in
general: we have seen his account of the his 3 Laws
in particular. The Law Natural, Law Divine &
Law of Nature: without which there would have
been no such thing as knowing what to make of
Law Municipal: [that is of the only thing that we
can understand is not that in Laws]
thence and makes any them. Makes a from Law Divine.

We now come to his account of accompany here examine with him into the said Law
Municipal. A thing that a man has in his hand
and which by looking at it one should hope he
might learn how to describe. Let him do this
well, we will disprove it excuse him from describing what [does not has no
existence.] exists not to be described.

Of Municipal Law he has obliged us given us with a
formal definition: and of that Definition an
explanation: and in the belly of that explanation a digression
concerning "in which the Nature of Society, and Civil Government" † p.47
is into made known to us, together with certain other notable
matters, as in due time will appear be made appear.

The "Definition written"
⊞ As to the his Definition, it is this. "Municipal Law", he says, "is a rule of civil
"conduct prescribed by the supreme power in a state,
"commanding what is right, and prohibiting what is wrong",
and this (we have his express word for it) is a "proper"
definition.

Of this sentence, ever world almost stands member almost that is separately insignificant has its
separate explanation: and in truth it wants it: and the
explanation wants another: and if he were to give another
that would want a third: and if a third, that would want
a fourth: and the more explanation he would give gave it one
might venture to say, the more of the would still be wanting.
