SECT. Interpretation.

"to the acceptation of the learned in each art, trade,"
(occupation he might have added) "or science."
This rule, as it stands here is, in point of use, about as
much as comes to nothing. (To be good for any
thing it must be thus in some way as this developed.) Of the terms
may be have a sense and in others as they
may have a technical one, and an ordinary
one. The technical sense they have may reside in
the one single term, or swell out of an assemblage.
If it implies that

ab origine, or
Technical by adoption. This is, they
sense these have it has may
may show no other
sense than
be what
has been given them it
for the purposes of
a particular art &c
by persons conversant
in that art, &c
without their its its having ever had a sense been used by people persons at large: or else it may
first have had first an ordinary sense known to persons at large: and
then have had a one that is different one (tho' analogous) given it by persons for
the purposes of [a particular] such an art [by persons conversant in that art].
A Terms that is technical may, in the 2d place, be technical either
singly, or only in conjunction, a phrase or assemblage that is technical,
composed of words that singly taken, are
not so.

If then the Term or assemblage of terms in question be of the sort of those
that are technical ab origine, the technical sense
is it's "usual and most known signification": for
it is the one one in which it is at all used or
