which we are desirous to have solved: to solve it
therefore, he here gives us, the subject—matter.
Now the question that may have be put in, how we
are to come at this some subject—matter.4 By the
words, according to my notion of the matter, or
not at all; by inspiration it should seem, ac—
cording to him. Of the assemblage of words
that constitutes the law in question, some
word or some smaller assemblage of words is
that which now expresses the subject—matter.
In the example it is a single word, the
word provision,]: and This word then, as our Au—
ther's will will have it, in the which is designed to
express the subject—matter, in the very word, and
the only word concerning which there is can be any reason
for doubt: and the consideration of the subject—
matter this expressed but imperfectly expressed is
that which the Author gives us by this rule
of his, to put the matter out of doubt. What
we wish to do without being able is, to know
that it is, that is the subject—matter. To satisfy as then
he proposes to as the consideration of this same subject matter as a thing
we knows already.

I give that material part of this law I suppose he means,
for he has not cited it' of it
length: since happily it is a short one: In
