8 Kinds of Statutes.
and it would be a pleasant controversy enough; of

distinction between two individual objects, he
may, make if he sees occasion for it, two kinds of
them. As with the objects of sense, so is it
with those of intellection: the different properties
by which they are capable of suggesting diffe—
rent perceptions to us are made indeed by
him who made those objects: but the distincti—
ons of nomenclature which serve to announce
those differences, and by which the objects are
marshalled into kinds, are made by us who
look upon them. Tis an observation of Locke's,
which our Author would have done well, to
profit from.
The kinds however he gives us, are as follows.
First Statute They are either General otherwise
called Public, and or special otherwise called
Private: and there ends that source of division. The
