son. The statutes made in one, if there are
a hundred of them, as there are are sometimes more, are
in Law but are. This one when printed makes generally a good handsome : and is divided into so many
chapters; which to vulgar eyes appear, and try vulgar
months of and may even sometimes by learned months in
condescension to vulgar ones, are spoken of, as so many statutes.
These chapters it is plain ought not to have any
other division: for this might make the book in
some respects like other books; by which it would might be
in danger of being intelligible. For the same reason
there saw divisions that it has, ought not to be taken no—
tice of: but the statute in the start legal sense of the wordas the practice is,

above a hundred of these volumes (to speak of Public
