in any sense he pleased.

The 4th Rule is "that the deed be taken most strongly
"against him that is the agent or contractor, and in
"favour of the other party". I suppose he means, that
a passage is words are to be taken most strongly against him
whose undertaking they appear intended to express,
whose act they indicate. This is saying something:
But before his has done with it, he almost argues
himself out of concert with it, and brings it down
in a manner to nothing. what degree of weight it
deserves in itself point of utility, and what degree it has met with
which would take too much here to cannot without too long a digression be discussed here.

The 5th rule is, that if the words will bear two senses one agreable to, and another against Law, that sense
be preferred which is most agreable thereto. Before
I can give this rule credit for any very high antiguity
I must persuade myself that it is intelligible. For in order
to apply it to practice at all, much more in order to pally it frequently it must be understood.

The word most seems to intimate that a disposition of property made by a man of his property a middle state between
acceptance and reprobation. I know of no such middle
state: therefore In every case I take it, either the Law will
either punish the non-compliance with the disposition in
question, or it will not. Again, I take it, that admitting
a disposition in one sense of it to be against Law,
