You have possession of a
thing in so far as you can
use it without obstacle.

Law and legal possession — proportion according to law being

Possession — to have possession of a thing, to have the
thing in ones possession — to simply have the thing — by all these
several phrases, and perhaps others that might be issued
the same import is consigned.
