1828 Sept. 12
Blackstone

Blackstone! Blackstone! First Doctor, the next Mr Professor,
then Commentator, then Sir William, lastly Mr the Honorable and Worshipful
Mr Justice Blackstone!!! He must not be forgotten
any more than any one of all the so many Lady Goddesses.
He must be our Master of the Ceremonies. So
high, and so low so wide-spread his fame, but for his
name scarcely scarce would we have nursed or conceived a hope
of obtaining for our work a g the honour of a glance
from any the great body of our readers. Yes: In many a mind dictionary,
Law and Blackstone Commentaries are in a manner become synonymous
names for one and the same thing.

High-Priest, Interpreter, and is this personage
now for some years past departed, canonized and
made become a saint in has heaven – that is to say the
Lawyers heaven – (and it will not on this occasion
be necessary to warn the reader our readers against those fictions
in which the learned among gentlemen are such
wholesale dealers) such has been and still continues to
be the venerable personage. A more apt and
felicitous and appropriate choice, assuredly Lady
Anglica Law – as she is never could have made.

As his Majesty (whom God preserve) when he has
spoken read his lesson till he is tired, says by the mouth of his Lord
Chancellor the rest of which he would wish to have said
so by the mouth of her chosen Representative Dr
Commentator &c &c &c Blackstone will Lady Anglica
aforesaid give expression be seen or heard to his sovereign will and
pleasure.
