Blackstone.

Reader in company with
four personages viz
1. Universal jurisprudence
2. Law as she aught to be
3. Law as she is,
4. Law as she pretends to be,
of female sex: not for learned
gents to object to the
fiction.

Matthews a mortal Proteur.

Author speaks for the characters,
they not being like the
celebrated Potatoes.

Universal jurisprudence
mother of the rest – nearly
as many offspring as D

Christened after names
of the countries where they preside
as Eng. French Spain &c

Called universal when observed
to be school mistress:
She continues to teach of
law in all families.

Law as she aught to be, is
still in teens: she is what she
is from seeing pranks of her
sisters, England in particular.

Law as she pretends to be
not distinct, but one of the
ises with a mask.

Of these wayward sisters
only Ld Anglica will interest
reader.

Blackstone, Master of the
Ceremonies – his panic far

He is now a Saint in Lawyer's
heaven.

As King talks thro' the
Chancellor, Ld Anglica will

Now for truth. The more
enlivened the better. Indignation
often smothered.
"Weep first thyself" &c.

§ 1. Universal jurisprudence
what is it?

Law as she ought to be, will
answer your questions – and
give explanation of command
obedience, obligation, duties
rights.

In what family are there
not commands, obligations &c?
in what part of the residence
are they not issued or obeyed?

Our course is this
1. Matter from Universal jurisprud.
2. Do Law as she ought to be.
3. Do as she is
4. Do pretends to be
Per reader
1. what is jurisprudence?
2. what is universal in it?
3. Do have I to do with it?
4. — the use of it?
5. Has it to do with Eng law?
6. What about it in Blackstone?

Answer to of your questions.

These are words of jurisprudence,
not of English only
but the equivalent of those
on the Continent or elsewhere.

No great advance, this.
True

True, but in the import
of these we have a key to
the rest.

Now come Right, obligation
&c words of universal jurisprudence
– ask any lawyer
or Blackstone's Ghost, – they
will not deny it; but ask
how their import springs out
of their relation to that of
the second set – they will
only stare.
