Introduction
(2 §.2. The Dream

While I was musing, wondering what all this could
mean and in what it would terminate, up rose the eldest
Lady, and in a voice that sounded as if it came
from heaven then addressed the audience.

Disciples. I am that person of whose bird
speaks under the name of Astrea — the Goddess of justice
those other persons whom you behold on each side of me

On my right hand sits see/behold Felicia. She will tell you

Next to me on my left sits see Gubernia.
Her province will be on each occasion to inform you
what the law is or at any rate is supposed by those who have the power likely to be
declared to be: the law including that part of the rule
of action which has existence, and that part which has none.

Beyond Gubernia on my left hand sits
Dolosa. Her province will be is occasionally to inform
you that which the law in a case in which it is
not so pretends is pretended to be. On ordinary occasions she wears
over her face one of the two you see her holding in her hand,
on the
one the resemblance of one
of her sisters; the other, that
of the other. For your
sakes, instruction for this time she appears
