Blackstone or J. B's Civil Code
6
2
Beginnings
2

1. Offences collectively 2. offences severally
considered. In the penal code this is the primordial
division that has been made of the whole matter
relative to offences. It may in like manner
be applied to the principal matter of the civil
code that is to say to right.

Hence comes a division of the matter
of the civil code and the corresponding
distribution of it under two heads: that
is to say, 1. rights collectively 2. Rights severally
considered.

Correspondent to rights offences and wrongs
are these other fictitious or say incorporeal entities:
namely, 4. services, 5. benefits, 6. obligations or say
burdens or charges, 7. maleficent acts or say maleficial
acts, 8. beneficent or say beneficial acts
or acts of benevolence. To these others may come to
be added as they occur: two and accordingly
two lines are here left blank for the reception of them.

Of rights the primordial division is into
1. rights actually possessed or say in actual possession,
2. rights confirmation needing: at the hands for example
of the Judge Correspondent to every such right is
an appropriate service, namely the service rendered
or say performed by confirmation given to that same right.

The above leading terms cannot be
said to be any of them synonymous; but in many
instances out of them may be made in the character
of leading members sentences which would be
equivalent to and without change in meaning
capable of being substituted the one to the other.
