Constitut. Code. I. Enactive III. Reason-giving part
On account of his managing the affairs of an individual,
a Steward or Agent does not arrogate to himself the
superiority over such his principal employer: as little on account of
his bearing a part in the management of the affairs of all
should a public functionary belonging to the Legislative or the Executive
department, arrogate to himself a superiority over a member
of the superior department the Constitutive, any superiority oher
than that which is of effectually and inseparably attached to
the particular function which belongs to him.
To acknowledge any such groundless superiority
is the improbity of all those who gain profit by it, and the
folly of all those who suffer by it.
If in the breast of him by whom the external means
of happiness are possessed in the greatest possible quantity, the possession and enjoyment of happiness
itself can not be secured in any greater quantity than
in the breast of him who has least, less and less can it by the
possession of any less quantity of those same exterior means.
It follows that the more nearly near to an equal
are is the plan of distri pursued in the distribution made of
the external means of happiness, the greater is the quantity
of happiness that will be produced.
