☞ Add to the reason in favour of Democrats, as contradistinguished
from Monarchy, absence of the great prize by
and the appetite for which, in Monarchy private assassination and civil
war are so liable apt to be produced. Under Democracy, the
highest prizes are so much more enormous as to satisfy
the correspondent number of ambitions and being of so much
less value, the desire they are capable of exciting is so
much less intense.
