Constitutional Code 1832 May 10 Ch. XII. Judiciary Collectively
Service rendered in the character
of a Judge is a species or say a modification
of that labour or say work in the performance
or say the doing of which the labour
or working part of the labouring or say working
person or say human being.
Wherever in human discourse two different
signs are employed, in and by their difference intimation is given
of a correspondent difference between the two things signified,
between the thing signified by the other: and, whatsoever
be the thing meant to be signified, that it is something which
is seen in a state in which it is not conjoined with
or say to the sign by means of which the signification
of it is performed
.
Accordingly Thus when in speaking of a human being he is
spoken of as being composed of two beings, or two parts
the sign of one of which the word body is the sign, of the
other the word mind, intimation is thereby given
that instances or at the least at any rate one instance is
known to have happened in which preparation has been that
of a body uncombined with any head, or of
a mind, uncombined with any bodynot having any body in combination with it. But of neither
of these cases can any support existences or appearances sufficiently prove or
instance be adduced.
