Ch. Judiciary collectively
(2) (3 §. 247. Judge's Remuneration
6
Wherever by unpunishable
means a pers man can
give encrease to the
number of occasions for
exacting service his
interest becomes in
opposition to his duty
In every case in which by any unpunishable
means whatsoever it is in the power of any man who for service in any shape to give
encrease to the number of the occasions on which that
same service comes to be rendered this same opposition between
interest and duty and interest has place, and the
mischievous efficiency of it is more or less considerable: duty is sacrificed
to interest — to the interest of the trustee functionary and to this
interest the interest of the customer is sacrificed, and the
evil done sustained to the customer by whom the service is bespoken and paid for is more than equivalent to
the good obtained by the dealer by whom the service is performed
and sold.

Example in the case
of medical practitioners
This state of things to no inconsiderable degree is the case this state of things has place
in the relation between patient and medical practitioner: in
consideration of it an arrangement in England not altogether uncommon is
that of an annual salary given by the patient to the practitioner
by the patient.
