1826. June 21
Constitutional Code.

Ch. XII Judiciary collectively
(5) §. 20 Architectural arrangements
II. Judiciary immediate

7 24
Therein Consideration of prime
importance audibility
to Judicial visitors

1. On this occasion, the station of prime importance the obj accordingly
prime object of reference — is the station of the Judiciary
Visitors. Of these persons sitting in that character/capacity will the number beyond compare be greatest,
greater than all the others put together. In this it
Of no one of that number is it in the power as it is in that
of every other p of the persons present to secure to himself in relation to every word uttered the faculty
of hearing. If then the aggregate of their station scale be so ordered
that in that one of them which is least favourable to hearing, a discourse
pronounced in a tone not louder than that of ordinary
conversation is heard from whatsoever other part seat or station in the apartment
uttered, perfection will as to this point be ascertained.
So much in respect of audibility.

8 25
So visibility

Now in respect of visibility. Of course this
faculty is not in point of the importance approaches
as to that of audibility. Such matter is it by any means
destitute of importance. In general it is though both
channels that of the eye as well as that of the ear that the matter of spoken
discourse finds its way into the mind: step up that of the eye
to the perception obtained from that which passes through the ear alone will not infrequently be
obscure and or erroneous. At the time in the way of interpretation
great strong is the light frequently shone cast upon verbal discourse,
by continuous gesture and deportment: frequently
where falshood is uttered by the appointed proposed audible signs, truth
the opposite truth is conveyed by the unprepared visible signs,
and the evil effected intended by the audible signs
prevented.
