Religion the cause

In this way then as in so many others, without end
may be seen what is called religion armed against morality
and employed in forcing men in countless numbers to live a life of insincerity
on pain of remaining divested of those common
rights which at the same time in pretence and profess
pretended and professed and thus falsely pretended to be given to all alike

And to what purpose so flagrant an injustice? To no
other than by the power and profit to contribute to the keeping
in f an order of men engaged at an immense expence
in the capacity quality of instruments of delusion corruption and
oppression in the hands of a prominent determined in every
point by an interest or a state of constant and
opposition to that of the vast majority of the people.

fees payments taxes are exacted which though to the higher ruling classes are
as nothing, are to the vast majority a burthen of severe
