THEFT CORRECTIVES to ANOMALITIES
When I, speak of the Statues of
which I am about to give an
account as correctives of the
anomality of the aforementioned
doctrines, I mean by as means
to apply my approbation to the
quantum of the new punishment inflicted by them respectively but to
its' proportion to the old punishment
annexed to the original stock of
offences comprized under that the title
in question: which stock I maintain
had nothing to distinguish it in point of
reason & from the articles which an
approval of them as enduring
like Law, where I maintain
there was like reason: I approve
of them relatively as consistent,
not absolutely as proper.
Under this Idea, I shall even include
in the Catalogue Statutes
which have done nothing more than
take away the benefit of Clergy from
offences parcel of the original Stock
and consequently annex to each offence
the punishment of Death which
did not in every contingency belong
to them before, because that Punishment
belonging at present to above
all, may must now be considered as the general
Rule Pattern of Punishment, to from which the lesser
punishment which still subsist in a
few cases can as it were but so many exceptions deviations
