Evidence
The adverse prejudice in question will by this means
be compleatly eluded: the witness though by the sympathies
interested & by the force of this interest
is a plan of depredation to be carried into effect
by perjury would to the eye of the judge appear
uninterested and unexceptionable.
3. Upon either plan – the plan of single handed
perjury or the plen of perjury – from
enterprize or a few enterprizes of this kind
no adequate mass of profit would present itself as
attainable and supposing the repetitions of any
such enterprize to become in any degree frequent
the success having as far as they have been attended
by success been by the supposition in every instance purchased at the
expence of an alarm wd soon have been excited
which alarm wd grow stronger & stronger with every
fresh attempt: the face or or faces of this professional
perjurer or perjurers with the suspicion & odium
with which they would be encouraged wd soon
become known and notorious in the Courts of Justice.
Here as in the case of drawing and redrawing the
scheme wd betray itself by the regular recurrence
of the same pernicious & suspicious & odious arts practices sp steps.
