Evidence
The natural effect (it may be said observed) of this habit of perversion
more especially in this latter modification of it, is to destroy in the
bosom of the people all confidence in the discourse language and character
of the Judge. True: but the production of this effect is or rather was the very object
of the practice contrivance. The object of the Judge was the distinction so
material to drive the suitor in the first instance, into the arms
of an Attorney: to make him relinquish as impracticable, all
hope of obtaining justice in the natural mode tract of procedure: to
drive send drive him theseto into the ring of confederates, through one by which
plundered at each stage, he would be hustled on through the technical
system of procedure, in its several stages, duly regularly and securely
plundered at each stage. Had the Judge On in these
great and high tribunals as in the petty Courts of summary jurisdiction,
conversed and chatted with the suitors in the the vulgar and unlearned sincerity paragraphs of veracity and probity plain-speaking,
no would have been created neither service nor business would have been made in the one place
more than in the other: in a word the technical system would
not have come into existence would not have reprised to its present point of maturity.
