Evidence
That to make persuade men in general to believe, that by pronouncing
any such word as buzz, it were is in his power
to throw them into convulsions and to draw pens out
their characters, would on the part of any woman, young or
old, require ingenuity, and ingenuity of no common ordinary force
but to with forms of words in his mouth no less unconnected with the
merits of a cause than the word buzz to produce the convulsions
and extract the gold, required on the part of former
Judges, armed as they were with the requisite compliment
of power, nothing more than wickedness and effrontery, required
on the part of the existing race dynasty for the time being nothing more than conformity,
to which no practice quiet, and incurious, and irreproachable conformity, to long established practice.
Between the operations of the swindler, and those of the
Judge under the technical system, where then in few words lies
the conformity and the difference? Each Neither produces
any effect without the production of injustice: each profits is a gainer
by the injustice he produces, each derives a his profit. But to in the case of the swindler ingenuity
is necessary, power hopeless: in the case of the Judge
ingenuity is unnecessary, power is abundant and irresistible.
On this as on all other occasions in which the contrary is
not directly specified, in speaking of Judges, considered as in the character of authors
of mischief injustice, I speak of those who are no more: as to the
existing race dynasty for the time being, the power of doing mischief is theirs,
not the power of remedying it. As to inclination, all questions
on that head are must be referred wholly and constantly to
themselves.
