7. This list of ends – this set of fundamental principles – presented exhibited
as comprizing constituting when put together a the compleat foundation <add>of</add>
of for this division branch of moral science, will fail of answering its such this intention,
if it be either incompleat or redundant: viz: incompleat if any article
having a claim to be put upon the same line with the articles actually
comprized in the list, has failed of being comprized in
it: – redundant, if among the articles actually comprized in it
there be any one the claim or more of which, in respect of its claim to be comprized in the list
fails of being upon a par with that of any of the rest. Whether
in any instance it be chargeable with any such omission
or redundancy misplacement, will throughout be a fit object of the reader's
scrutiny.

8. It is not considered as a blemish but an advantage, in the System
of mechanical philosophy as brought to view by Newton, that the
forms by which in virtue of the particles of matter tend to approach one another
are comprized under the appellations given to the several known
modifications of the principle of attraction, of which gravitation, the attraction
of gravitation is most efficient and extensive:

– that under in the system of Lavoisier the elements of which
bodies essentially belonging to the animal and vegetable kingdom have been
comprized under no more than for denominations, oxygens, hydrogens, acids
and combine:

– that in the system of Linnæus the subjects of the vegetable kingdom
have been in all their prodigious variety of configuration been
comprized comprehended in four and twenty classes

– nor in any of these illustrious instances have has the frequent recurrence of the
same names denominations been considered in any other light than that of
a confirmation of the truth and utility of the system, an assistance and
relief to the conception and memory of him who takes it under .
