§. 2. False ends or Actual ends of judicature
In the formation fabrication of Priest-made religion, even in
its most mischievous pernicious forms, the predominance of
sinister interests is sinister interest manf manifest conspicuous would scarcely be found more incontestable
than it is made maybe be seen to be in Judge-made
law, even seen even in the picture Blackstone has
given of it by Blackstone, seen spite of notwithstanding all
his varnishes.
For the sake of the profit emolument, and other advantage in other shapes, extractible out of the
expence, to manufacture, on every occasion, in the greatest endurable
quantity, delay the inseparably interwoven topics of abuses, – viz.
unnecessary delay, vexation and expence, – may be seen to bear
throughout to have been the sole only real object of subsistence.
Fortunately in pursuit of the only real object, it was
impossible not possible however possible to proceed without observance of the former nor altogether the appearance, nor
even altogether without the reality of justice: and to those the necessity
thus produced, may, without much danger of error,is to be ascribed what little of justice may
be found perceptible in the result.
Bearing in mind his much, the reader,
learned or unlearned, will be find himself in a condition to account
for the several phenomena, of actual law, or it as they present themselves
to view: without this if if on the contrary the burthen on the other hand be found to
if the same, of a so mischievous to and other admiring eyes(a)
be felt too heavy for endurance, every thing he sees will be
in effect without a cause.
