Accommodation The abuses which grow up so naturally are
so likely to grow up under the shadow of this
prejudice in favour of accommodation had
risen it should seem to such a height under
the Sardinian laws as to have attracted the
attention of the legislator. Forced accommodations prohibited by the Sardinian Law In that code there
one may see an express provision (L. II. 1. 13)
forbidding prohibiting all Judges from making any order
to oblige parties to come accommodate their
suits. An obli express obligatory order to this
effect has it must be confessed very much
the air not only of an injustice but of a
contradiction in term terms. A man may
be forced to say Content: but can he be forced
to be so?
Establishments for promoting accommodation
are in the civil branch of the law
what the unrestricted power of pardoning is in the penal.
In both the legislator undermines with one hand
the edifice he is building with the other. Both
bespeak the barbarous humanity of an unenlightened
age.
