Accommodation The mischief which those Reconciliation-
It is impossible not to think Who can help thinking upon this
occasion of [the apologies of] the Heathen God-maker.
He takes a tree the trunk of a tree
and cuts saws it into two logs. He calls the
one a log, what it is a log, and throws it
into the fire. Out of the other he carves an
image which he calls Jupiter Soter Jupiter the Saviour
and falls down and worships it. But in
this manufactory the same log is in one corner
part of it place kicked about as a log, and in another adored
as Jupiter.
This mischief log is a very mill-stone
lieing about the neck of Justice. The mischief
which these Reconciliation-Offices are empowered
to do and even obliged to do is not half over
yet half at an end. If the adverse parties
are so unfortunate enough as not as to live in the territories
of the same Judge of the Peace, the Reconciliation-Office
they are to pass through is
quite a different thing. It is a tribunal composed
of six members three of them at least
men of law and sitting in the chief-town
of the District close by the District-Court. What is
