Attendance coram The very idea of true justice would have
been best to mankind driven out of the minds of men were it not for a few
privileged spots jurisdictions into which he has been unabled
or has disdained to pursue it. Few nations perhaps so unfortunate as not to inclose some sequestered spot in which the sacred image has been preserved. Such
are the Consular jurisdictions in France; the
Slovesnöe Sood or oral tribunal in Russia;
and the Courts of conscience and a few other
Courts of too narrow jurisdiction in England.
I allow of no such privileges: I destroy them
without mercy — How? — as the National
Assembly have destroy'd the privileges of the provinces —
by enlarging them, and turning
them into common rights.
